BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Plymouth State University took four of the six singles matches Wednesday afternoon and went on to edge Bridgewater State College, 5-4, in Little East Conference women’s tennis action.
Bridgewater State took a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches, as junior Angie Bizzozero (Norwell, Mass.) and Rachael Hellyar (Fairhaven, Mass.) teamed up for a win at No. 1, and Jeannette Nguyen (Dorchester, Mass.) and Alison Tripp (South Dennis, Masss.) were victorious at No. 3. PSU won its only doubles match at No. 2, courtesy of senior Erica Huckins (Holderness, N.H.) and junior Jill Deyermond (Atkinson, N.H.)
Bizzozero and Dianna Sullivan won the top two singles matches for the hosts, but PSU pulled out the team victory with wins in the bottom four spots by Huckins, senior Kiley Boyd (Brattleboro, Vt.), junior Joan Kietzman (Plymouth, N.H.) and freshman Amanda Arponen (Plymouth, Mass.), the latter in her season debut.
BSC, 1-1 both overall and in conference play, continues LEC action this Saturday as the Bears travel to UMass-Boston (1:00 p.m.), while Plymouth State, 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the Little East, returns home to host LEC rival Salem State on Friday (4:00 p.m.)
