DANBURY, Conn. – The Plymouth State University women’s tennis team wrapped up the dual match season Saturday afternoon with a 6-3 Little East Conference victory over Western Connecticut State University. The Panthers overcame bus troubles and the Colonials to pull out the victory.
PSU concludes the dual matches with an 8-3 overall record, equaling last year’s mark. The Panthers also finished 6-1 in LEC matches, while WestConn is now 3-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Sophomore Meghan Rodier (Francestown, N.H.), senior Kiley Boyd (Brattleboro, Vt.), and junior Briley Boisvert (Goffstown, N.H.) captured two wins apiece for the Panthers. Boyd and Boisvert teamed up for a win at No. 3 doubles while collecting victories at Nos. 4 and 6 singles, respectively. Rodier won her match at No. 2 singles and combined with junior Joan Kietzman (Plymouth, N.H.) for a triumph at No. 2 doubles.
Senior Erica Huckins (Holderness, N.H.) also won her match for PSU at No. 3 singles. Rodier, Huckins, Boyd and Kietzman all have identical 8-3 singles records this fall, and Boisvert is 6-2.
Plymouth State competes in the annual LEC Tournament next Friday and Saturday, hosted by UMass Dartmouth. The Panthers finished runner-up last season after capturing their first conference championship in 2004.
