PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University needed all five games to pull out a 3-2 victory over Keene State College Friday night at a Little East Conference women’s volleyball round-robin at PSU’s Foley Gymnasium.
The Panthers outlasted the Owls, 29-31, 30-25, 30-26, 27-30, 15-9, to record their ninth straight win over Keene State and 12th victory in 14 career meetings. Western Connecticut swept Southern Maine in Friday’s other match, 30-23, 30-24, 30-27.
Senior Becky Ciulla (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the Panthers with 20 kills, 15 digs and five blocks. Classmates Kelly Landry (Nashua, N.H.) and Stacy Therrien (Rochester, N.H.) were also solid contributors, Landry adding 14 kills and 13 digs and Therrien 10 kills. Freshman Sarah Spears (Meredith, N.H.) chipped in with 12 digs, and senior setter Amanda Bagwell (Riverside, R.I.) registered 48 set assists.
Keene State was led by senior Shelly Ellis (Hampton, N.H.), who posted 22 kills and 18 digs. Freshman Brittany O’Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) added nine kills and 17 digs, and junior Genna Florkowski (East Northport, N.Y.) finished with 11 digs.
PSU, 7-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play, faces Western Connecticut Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and Southern Maine Saturday at 1:00 p.m. KSC, 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the LEC, battles Southern Maine at 11:00 a.m. and Western Connecticut at 1:00 p.m.
