BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Plymouth State University, Bridgewater State College and Centenary College (N.J.) all finished with 2-1 records at a collegiate wrestling quad meet Thursday evening, while Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) dropped all three matches to round out the team results.
PSU defeated Stevens Tech (34-12) and Bridgewater State (30-14), but suffered a 31-20 setback to Centenary. Plymouth State is now 6-11 in dual matches this season, while BSC is 7-8-1, Centenary is 7-7, and Stevens Tech is 3-11.
Senior Nate Kittredge (Vergennes, Vt.), junior Nick Gurney (Dixfield, Maine) and sophomore Matt Friend (Jefferson, N.H.) led the Panthers with perfect 3-0 records on the evening. Kittredge went 3-0 at 184 pounds to improve his season record to a team-best 23-6, and his career mark to 97-21. Gurney won all three of his bouts at 174 pounds to up his record to 12-11 this season, and Friend was 3-0 at 133 pounds to move his season mark to 9-12.
Three other Panthers won two of their three matches. Senior Dan Moskowitz (Amherst, N.H.) rebounded from a loss to Stevens Tech at 157 pounds with a major decision and a pin to improve his season record to 21-8 and his career mark to 91-38. Sophomore Brandon Black (Keene, N.H.) won twice at 165 to even his season ledger at 10-10, and junior Billy Wilbert (Toms River, N.J.) was 2-for-2 at 197 pounds to up his mark to 8-5.
Freshman Chris Greenwood (Manchester, N.H./West) at 125 pounds, senior Micah Canestaro (Wakefield, Mass.) at 141, and freshman Shaun Wilbert (Toms River, N.J.) at 285, all collected one win apiece for PSU.
Plymouth State returns home for the final home event of the season, a quad meet this Saturday at Foley Gymnasium with Trinity College, Springfield College and Johnson & Wales University. The first matches begin at 12 noon.
