CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Plymouth State University wrestling team finished with victories in two out of three matches Saturday afternoon at the MIT quad meet. The Panthers rebounded from a 40-7 loss to Bridgewater State College in the first round with a 35-19 decision over MIT and a 27-15 victory over Norwich University. PSU is now 5-10-1 in dual matches this season.
Sophomore Joe McGowan (Lincolnville, Maine) at 141 pounds and senior Landon Nelson (Salem, N.Y.) in the 184-pound bout were the only Panther winners against Bridgewater State. Junior Shawn Moseley (Hooksett, N.H.), a 133-pounder, was the only Panther to register a win on the mat in the victory over MIT, but the Panthers earned the team victory with four wins by forfeit and one by default.
PSU finished the day with six individual winners to earn a 27-15 victory over Norwich, a team that had defeated the Panthers earlier this year 20-18. Senior heavyweight Josh St. Ours (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) and senior 125-pounder Chris Greenwood (Manchester, N.H./West) started the match out with wins by fall, and Moseley followed with a major decision to give PSU a 17-0 lead. Freshman Dustin Rudy (Iselin, N.J.) at 157, senior Ryan Schieding (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) at 174 and freshman Eric Larcomb (Jefferson, N.H.) also registered victories for the Panthers.
PSU wrestles again next Friday, Feb. 1, at American International College in Springfield, Mass., facing AIC and Springfield Tech (5:00 p.m.)
