PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Ryan Schieding (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) recorded a key pin and sophomore Shaun Wilbert (Toms River, N.J.) earned a victory in the decisive bout Wednesday evening, leading Plymouth State University to a 23-20 victory over Worcester Polytechnic Institute in a collegiate wrestling match at Foley Gymnasium.
Schieding pinned his opponent at 157 pounds, while Wilbert collected a victory in the final match of the evening at 285 pounds with the team score deadlocked at 20-20. The victory improves the Panthers to 5-8 on the season, while WPI falls to 5-10. PSU and WPI placed 11th and 13th, respectively, at last Sunday’s New England Conference Dual Meet Championships.
Plymouth State also got decisions Wednesday from freshman Zeth Nolda (East Lyme, Conn.) at 149 pounds and senior Nick Gurney (Dixfield, Maine) at 184, while junior Matt Friend (Jefferson, N.H.) received a forfeit win at 133.
WPI got major decisions from junior Roman Walsh (Wilmington, Mass.) at 141 and freshman Larry Loomis (Plainfield, Conn.) at 165, as well as victories from junior Chris Vacher (North Attleboro, Mass.) at 174 and senior Mike D’Onofrio (Northboro, Mass.) at 197. Junior Pat Campagnola (Auburn, N.H.) received a forfeit win at 125.
PSU hosts a quad this Sunday in the final home meet of the season, as Bridgewater State, Norwich and MIT all come to Foley Gym (12:00 p.m.) WPI will be at Roger Williams this Saturday for the NECCWA vs. Metropolitan Conference Duals (12:00 p.m.)
