PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Defending Little East Conference champion Rhode Island College registered its 13th straight regular season conference victory Friday afternoon, defeating Plymouth State University 7-2 in a women’s tennis match at the P.E. Center Courts.
The Anchorwomen won two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles encounters. RIC, which improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the LEC this season, hasn’t lost a Little East match since falling to Plymouth State on Sept. 24, 2002. PSU fell to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
Junior Liz Barrette (North Providence, R.I.) and senior Meghan Mooney (North Scituate, R.I.) led the Anchorwomen, winning in straight sets at #1 and #2 singles, respectively, and teaming up for a win at #1 doubles. Freshmen Audrey Davis (Stroudsburg, Pa.) and Kseniya Gurvich (Barrington, R.I.) and sophomore Caitlin Morin (Westerly, R.I.) also collected singles wins for RIC, with Gurvich handing PSU junior Rachel Xavier (Meredith, N.H.) her first loss of the season after seven straight wins.
Sophomore Tara Marchant (North Scituate, R.I.) and freshman Michaela Grant (Smithfield, R.I.) also won a match for RIC at #3 doubles.
The Panthers got wins from junior Liz Duell (Hope Valley, R.I.) at #5 singles, and Xavier and freshman Jill Deyermond (Atkinson, N.H.) at #2 doubles.
