PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Rhode Island College captured nine of the 10 individual bouts Thursday evening as the Anchormen defeated Plymouth State University in a college wrestling match at Foley Gymnasium, 40-4.
The Anchormen, who are ranked sixth in New England, improve to 1-0 on the season, while PSU, ranked 10th in New England, drops to 0-1.
Three RIC wrestlers won matches by pinning their Panther opponents – sophomore Ray Hanley (Wantagh, N.Y.) at 125 pounds, senior Matt Kelly (Carver, Mass.) at 149, and junior Arty Privedenyuk (Springfield, Mass.) at 165.
Other Anchormen to post winning decisions included freshman Eric Ryan Murphy (New London, Conn.) at 133 pounds, senior Luke Emmons (West Greenwich, Conn.) at 141, senior Dave Paquette (Ledyard, Conn.) at 157, senior Keith Nelson (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) at 197, and senior Justin Deveau (North Attleboro, Mass.) at 285. Freshman Kevin Davis (Amston, Conn.) collected a forfeit victory at 174.
Plymouth State’s only victory came at 184 pounds, where senior Nate Kittredge (Vergennes, Vt.) earned a decision to improve his record to 8-3 on the season.
PSU completes competition for the semester this Saturday with a quad meet at Roger Williams with Southern Maine and Western New England. RIC returns to action on Dec. 29-30 at the Citrus Invitational in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
