PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Matt Brannon (Cranston, R.I.) tossed a five-hit, nine-strikeout shutout Friday afternoon to lead Rhode Island College to a 13-0 victory over Plymouth State College in a Little East Conference baseball make-up game.
Brannon, who improved his record to 5-2, also helped his own cause, going 2-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and one run scored. He led an 18-hit attack for the Anchormen, who avenged a 5-4, 5-inning loss at PSC last Saturday.
RIC improves to 18-15-1 overall and 3-7 in the Little East, while PSC drops to 14-17 overall and 3-9 in the conference.
The Anchormen hit five home runs in the game, one each by Glenn Dusablon (5), Eric Gibree (9), Brian Peer (2), Evan Aten (1) and Adolfo Perez (2). Gibree was the offensive star, going 4-for-5 with two RBI, three runs, a homer and a double.
PSC managed only five hits off Brannon, four singles and a double by junior Mike Campo (Londonderry, N.H.). Senior Owen Burke (Sanbornton, N.H.) allowed seven runs in five innings and took the loss (5-3), and junior Brad Wilby (Haddonfield, N.J.) worked the final four innings.
The Panthers wrap up the regular season Saturday with an LEC twinbill at Western Connecticut (1:00 p.m.). PSC’s fate in the LEC Tournament, which includes six teams and begins Wedneday, will be determined after the weekend’s games.
