STANDISH, Maine – Sophomore Katie Jordan (Sandwich, Mass.) scored the only goal of the game with 3:12 to go in the second overtime Sunday afternoon to give Saint Joseph’s College a 1-0 victory over Plymouth State University in a non-conference women’s soccer match.
Plymouth State got off 17 shots through regulation and Saint Joseph’s had nine, but neither team could put one on the board as PSU freshman keeper Morgan McQuaide (Westerly, R.I.) and SJC freshman Monica Cuda (Everett, Mass.) kept the opponents at bay.
The Monks finally broke through when Jordan made a sideline run and knocked one past McQuaide for the game-winner. It was the first goal allowed by PSU in three games this season, handing the Panthers their first loss of the season.
PSU finished with a 19-10 advantage in shots. Cuda made six saves to earn the victory for St. Joe’s, while McQuaide made four stops for the Panthers.
PSU, 2-1-0 overall, opens Little East Conference play Saturday at UMass Boston (1:00 p.m.)
