SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Junior Gabrielle Bourgeois (New Haven, Vt.) posted her second career hat trick Saturday afternoon as the Saint Michael’s College women’s ice hockey team completed a two-game sweep over Plymouth State University with a 8-0 win at Cairns Arena.
Bourgeois scored two first period goals for the Purple Knights (2-2-0), along with a goal from sophomore Amy Schoon (Southborough, Mass.) that put Saint Michael’s up 3-0. Bourgeois completed the hat trick with 5:13 remaining in the second period, and the hosts received four third period goals from sophomore Molly Dever (Fairport, N.Y.), freshman Meghan Sweezey (Lynnfield, Mass.), senior Katie Grable (Vista, Calif.) and junior Leslie Pomponi (Belmont, Mass.)
Sophomore goaltender Kristen Salierno (Ridgefield, Conn.) earned the shutout for SMC, pushing aside 15 shots. Sophomore Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) made 31 saves for the Panthers, as Plymouth State lost its first two games of the season and the first two varsity games in the program’s history. Saint Michael’s defeated PSU Friday night, 6-1.
PSU, 0-2-0, is back on the ice Friday with a non-conference game at Bates (7:30 p.m.) The Purple Knights will be back in action next Saturday at MIT (3:00 p.m.)
