WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – Junior Billy Baker (Milton, Mass.) scored two goals in the final 22 seconds of regulation Thursday night, helping Salve Regina
University secure a 2-2 overtime tie with Plymouth State College in a non-conference hockey game at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
Plymouth State appeared headed for victory with a 2-0 lead entering the final minute of regulation play. But the Seahawks pulled their goalie, and Baker broke the
shutout with his first goal at the 19:38 mark. Then Baker added the improbable tying goal with 6.8 seconds on the clock. The two teams played a five-minute
sudden-death overtime before settling for the 2-2 deadlock.
The Panthers tallied both of their goals on power plays in the first period. Freshman Mitchell LaFleur (Levittown, Pa.) opened the scoring at the 13:42 mark, with
freshman Kyle Poirier (Concord, N.H.) and senior Aaron Fifield (Northfield Falls, Vt.) picking up assists. Sophomore Mike Jackson (Middleton, Mass.) made it a 2-0
game with 33 seconds left in the opening frame, converting a PPG from classmates Matt Toutain (Lewiston, Maine) and Bryan Croft (Penacook, N.H.).
PSC sophomore Mike Mansson (Wilson, Wy.), who nearly earned his first career shutout, finished with 34 saves, while SRU freshman Chris Burns (Quincy, Mass.)
made 23 saves.
The Panthers are home again Saturday with an ECAC Northeast conference game against Assumption (7:00 p.m.) while the Seahawks return home to host
Lebanon Valley in a Northeast Conference match-up (6:30 p.m.).
