PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Colby College rattled off four unanswered goals in the last 10 minutes of the game Tuesday afternoon to pull out an 11-10 victory over Plymouth State University in non-conference women’s lacrosse action at Arold Field.
The Mules, ranked ninth in Division III by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association, improve to 8-2 on the season, while PSU falls to 3-2.
Plymouth State maintained the advantage most of the first half, leading 1-0 just 17 seconds into the game and 4-1 with five minutes to go in the half. Colby scored twice in the last three minutes to make it a 4-3 score at the break.
It was a 6-6 game 11 minutes into the second half before PSU tallied four of the next five goals to take a 10-7 lead with 10 minutes remaining. Colby scored three times in a four-minute span to deadlock the game at 10-10 with five minutes to play, and freshman Lauren Barrett (Fairfield, Conn.) notched her game-high fourth goal with 2:56 remaining for the eventual game-winner.
In addition to Barrett, Colby got two goals and two assists from senior Emma Miller (Wellesley, Mass.) and two goals each from sophomores Allie Libby (Needham, Mass.) and Courtney Drake (Falmouth, Maine). Freshman Carrie Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn.) also scored once for the Mules.
Junior Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.) led the Panthers with four goals and sophomore Annie Pinault (Framingham, Mass.) contributed three goals and two assists. Sophomore Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) registered two goals and two assists, and junior Nicole Evans (Scituate, Mass.) added one goal for PSU.
Sophomore Suzie Lilakos (Stratham, N.H.) made 12 saves in the PSU goal, while sophomore Catharine O’Brien (Reading, Vt.) stopped nine shots for Colby.
PSU travels to Keene State Thursday (4:00 p.m.) for a meeting between the only undefeated teams in Little East Conference play. Colby returns home to host Tufts in a NESCAC match-up on Saturday (1:00 p.m.)
