Senator Judd Gregg will be at Plymouth State College on Monday, January 8 to dedicate the New England Weather Technology Evaluation Center (NEWTEC). The dedication ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m. The Center is located in Boyd Hall, room 229.

NEWTEC is run by the College’s meteorology program and is a test center for new instruments and computer programs developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). It has been established as a result of a $500,000 federal grant from NOAA, which Gregg helped secure, and is part of a greater regional effort to provide more accurate forecasts.

Dr. James Koermer, PSC professor of meteorology and director of NEWTEC, will provide an update on the Center’s initiatives and collaboration with UNH and the Mount Washington Observatory on the regional effort. Koermer says, “Our meteorology program has been one of the leaders in adapting new technologies. The NOAA grant has enabled us to take that one step further and provides our students an advance look at programs they will be using in the future.”
Parking will be available adjacent to Boyd Hall, off Highland Street. For more information about the NEWTEC dedication, please contact the PSC Office of Public Relations at (603) 535-2476.
