Sidore Series Hosts Stuart Davis in “Deity Freak: Sacred Comedy for Profane Sensibilities
Writer, Director, Actor, Comedian and Songwriter
Plymouth, N.H.—The Saul O Sidore Lecture Series at Plymouth State University will present writer, director, actor, comedian and songwriter Stuart Davis at 7 p.m. November 15 at the Silver Center for the Arts.
Davis has made a genre-busting career of delving into difficult subjects. With his trademark synergy of sacred and profane punch lines, he takes the audience through a circus of sexuality, spirituality and showbiz. In Davis’ universe, funny is profound and love has no opposite.
Join the multifaceted Davis for a hilarious and bizarre ride through the human spiritual experience in a performance entitled, “Deity Freak: Sacred Comedy for Profane Sensibilities” that is recommended for mature audiences.
For this “twisted mystic,” embarrassment, taboo and paradox are key performance ingredients. A longtime practitioner of Zen Buddhism, comedy and Indie rock music, Davis’ work is a rare combination of sincere open-heartedness and fearless boundary pushing.
This year’s Sidore Lecture Series focuses on developing solutions to some of the world’s most vexing issues. The speakers in this year’s lecture series seek to inspire audiences to find ways to become involved and effect change to help make a better world for us all.
A reception and light refreshments follow each program. Free tickets are available at the Silver Center Box Office, (603) 535-Arts (2787) or (800) 779-3869.
The next speaker in the series will be PSU senior Bryan Funk, discussing “A Journey into East Africa: Youth Empowerment and Changing the World,” February 28 at 7 p.m.
The Saul O Sidore Lecture Series was established at PSU in 1979 to bring a variety of speakers to the University each year to address the critical political, social and cultural issues and events of our time. All Sidore Lectures take place at 7 p.m. in the Smith Recital Hall at the Silver Center.
