Silver Cultural Arts Center Announces $50,000 Campaign

January 1st, 2005 by Adam

In January, The Silver Cultural Arts Center (SCAC) launched the community phase of a capital
campaign to raise $50,000 for improvements that include new lights, new production equipment
and new stage curtains. More than $30,000 had already been raised from corporate sponsors
and individual donors, including $20,000 from Plymouth State faculty and staff. University
President Don Wharton announced that donors to the new campaign who make gifts of $2,000
or more would be named members of The Farrell Circle of Giving, designated in honor of former
PSU President Bill Farrell who spearheaded the initial campaign to raise funds to renovate
and expand the original Silver Hall more than 10 years ago. Funds raised in excess of the
goal will be used to establish a permanent endowment to support SCAC programs and productions.

SCAC Director Diane Jeffrey says,”Some of the lights go back to the institution’s teachers
college days and have PTC stamped on them. The stage curtains in the Hanaway Theatre are
showing significant wear and tear after 11 years and more than 2,000 productions. And the
popularity of the dance program requires repairs and renovations to the dance studio
floor. We also needed chorale risers and a cover for the orchestra pit.”

In 1993, an $11
million renovation was completed for the SCAC, which is home to the PSU Department of Music,
Theater, and Dance and serves as a performance venue for the entire region. University and
community groups present nearly 200 public events each year, including the Silver Series of
guest artists, the Eagle Pond Authors’ Series, student and faculty performances, the Educational
Theatre Collaborative, The Pemigewasset Choral Society, Sidore Lecture Series, the All New
England Band, Choral and Jazz Festivals, Friends of the Arts, New Hampshire Music Festival, Summer
Children’s Theatre and summer camps for young people studying piano and dance, art exhibitions and
much more.
