|Montreal folk duo Kate & Anna
McGarrigle will perform as part of the Silver
Cultural Arts Centers Silver Series on Sunday,
March 13 at 4 p.m.
The McGarrigles sisters who grew up singing and
playing music in the Laurentian Mountains began
their recording career in 1976 with the release of Kate
and Anna McGarrigle, an album that won Stereo Reviews
Best Album of the Year. The sisters have also won
recognition from publications such as The New York
Times and Melody Maker, and their songs
have been recorded by Linda Ronstadt, Judy Collins,
Emmylou Harris and Nana Mouskouri, among other artists.
Their albums include Dancer with Bruised Knees,
Pronto Monto, Love Over and Over and Matapedia.
Most recently, they released The McGarrigle Hour,
an album featuring their favorite songs. The CD features
performances by Kates former husband, Loudon
Wainwright II, their children Rufus and Martha
Wainwright, Annas husband Dane Lanken and their
children Lily and Sylvan, along with honorary
McGarrigles Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris.
Their most recent album is a French recording called La
vache qui pleure (translated as The Cow that
Kate and Anna McGarrigle have performed their original music
for films and television and on National Public Radios A
Prairie Home Companion and have traveled to folk festivals and
concert halls all over North America and Europe. They have
partnered with singer Emmylou Harris for several recording
projects, including her Christmas album, Light in the Stable.
Their music, both the English and French, has been praised for
its vocal harmonies and original style.
