PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University won nine of the 16 events Saturday afternoon, but Simmons College displayed more depth and defeated the Panthers, 154-138, in the final women’s swimming and diving dual meet of the season at the PSU Natatorium.
PSU wraps up the dual meets with a 3-6 overall record, while Simmons finishes up at 6-2-1. Both teams will compete next in the biggest event of the year, the New England Division III Championships on Feb. 15-17 at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Junior Keri-Ann Arsenault (Chester, N.H./Pinkerton) led the way for Simmons with individual victories in three of the toughest events. She won the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:26.41, the 500-yard freestyle in 5:35.76, and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:26.31. Sophomore Brittany Ann Torelli (Waterbury, Conn.) was a double winner for the Sharks, taking the 100-yard freestyle (59.46 seconds) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:44.02), while sophomore Caitlin Uriciuoli (Wethersfield, Conn.) touched first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:25.97) and sophomore Heather O’Donnell (Longmeadow, Mass.) won the one-meter diving (167.25 points).
Sophomore Caitlin Little (Scituate, Mass.) was a double-winner for the Panthers, finishing first in the 50-yard freestyle (26.73 seconds) and the 50-yard butterfly (29.43). Five others captured one individual event apiece — senior Christina DiGiacomo (Meriden, Conn.) in the 200-yard freestyle (season-best 2:08.78), sophomore Chaz Sweeney (Methuen, Mass.) in the 50 back (season-best 30.63 seconds), junior Christina Labriola (Westerly, R.I.) in the 200 back (season-best 2:27.75), junior Kaitlyn Milligan (Forestdale, Mass.) in the 50 breaststroke (season-best 34.99 seconds), and senior Kate Marrie (Swampscott, Mass.) in the three-meter diving (154.75 points).
PSU was also victorious in both relay races, with Sweeney, Milligan, Little and DiGiacomo winning the 200-yard medley relay and DiGiacomo, Little, Milligan and junior Lindsay Osborne (Cedar Falls, Iowa) capturing the 400-yard free relay.
