WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – Curry College scored four goals on special teams Tuesday night and went on to capture a 6-3 decision over Plymouth State College
in an ECAC Northeast Conference hockey game at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
Freshman Michael O’Sullivan (Dorchester, Mass.) led the Colonels with two even-strength goals and an assist. Classmates Brian Doherty (Franklin, Mass.) and
Michael Heenan (North Easton, Mass.) each recorded two points, Doherty with a PPG and an assist and Heenan with two assists.
Curry took a 2-0 first-period lead, with Doherty notching his 13th goal of the season and freshman Matthew Wargo (Trenton, N.J.) adding a short-handed marker.
Senior Chris Tortorella (Larchmont, N.Y.) countered for PSC with a power play goal to bring the Panthers to within one by the end of the first.
The Colonels tallied three unanswered goals in a five-minute span in the second period, with freshman Sean Pero (Dorchester, Mass.) and sophomore David
Roberts (West Springfield, Mass.) connecting on the power play and O’Sullivan adding his first of the game. Freshman Mitchell LaFleur (Levittown, Pa.) gave PSC hope
with his third of the season with 3:34 to play in the second.
O’Sullivan scored his second of the game to open the third, and PSC could get only one more goal the rest of the way, a power play marker from freshman Michael
Bodnar (Laconia, N.H.).
Sophomore Phil Belmont (Marshfield, Mass.) made 24 saves to pick up the win for Curry, while PSC sophomore Mike Mansson (Wilson, Wy.) and senior Larry
Forgue (Nashua, N.H.) combined for 30 stops.
The Panthers, 4-11-1 overall and 4-7-0 in the Northeast, returns to action next Tuesday, Feb. 5, with a conference game at Suffolk (8:00 p.m.). The Colonels, 9-7-1
and 4-4-0, return home to host Nichols in a conference game this Saturday at 4 p.m.
