COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Plymouth State College field hockey team had its 13-game winning streak stopped Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale with a
2-0 non-conference loss at St. Michael’s College.
PSC, which completed a perfect Little East Conference regular season Saturday with a 4-1 win over Worcester State, heads into the post-season with a 13-4
overall record. The victory was the 13th of the year for the Purple Knights (13-3), equaling the school’s single-season record for wins in a season (1988 & 1995).
St. Michael’s freshman Jennifer Gray (Skowhegan, Maine) had a big day for the Knights, collecting both goals. The game-winner was a rocket to the low left corner
after a feed form senior Sarah Alves (East Sandwich, Mass.). The insurance goal came on a redirection of a beautiful crossing pass form freshman Jilby Danis
Junior Megan Scalley (Beverly, Mass.) made three saves, including a penalty stroke in the game’s final two minutes, to secure her eighth shutout of the year. PSC
freshman Ellen Ward (Thorndike, ME) made six saves in the Panther net. The Knights finished with an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.
The LEC regular-season champion Panthers receive a bye in Tuesday’s LEC tournament first round, and will host the LEC semi-finals and final Friday (Oct. 27)
