WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – Plymouth State College’s men’s and women’s alpine skiing teams placed third and fifth, respectively, in the giant slalom team standings Sunday at the
PSC Winter Carnival at Waterville Valley.
The Panther men placed third behind UMass Amherst and Colby-Sawyer and ahead of Boston College, Babson, Brown, UConn, MIT, St. Anselm and New England College. The
Panthers had finished fourth in Saturday’s slalom.
Sophomore Tyler Barlow (South Burlington, Vt.) paced the Panthers, finishing eighth overall in the GS among the more than 90 skiers. Junior Garrett Lashar (Kingfield, Maine) was
the next PSC finisher, ending up 11th after the two runs, and junior Brent Grygiel (Windham, Maine) placed 15th. Senior Bill Feather (Waterville Valley, N.H.) had the 20th best combined time
in the race.
The Panther women placed fifth in Sunday’s GS, finishing behind UMass Amherst, Brown, Colby-Sawyer, and Boston College and ahead of Smith, St. Anselm, Babson, MIT, UConn and
New England College. PSC picked up its first victory of the season in Saturday’s slalom.
Junior Whitney Swaffield (Wolfeboro, N.H.) was the top Panther placer in Sunday’s GS, finishing runner-up among the more than 70 skiers. Freshman Chantelle Heroux
(Cooperstown, N.Y.) placed 13th for PSC, followed by freshman Kelsey Real (Lanesboro, Mass.) in 28th and senior Morgan Fippinger (Burlington, Conn.) in 31st.
PSC will be back in action next Saturday and Sunday at the Brown Winter Carnival at Loon Mountain (N.H.).
