Teaching Moments Gives Insight into PSU Classrooms

October 5th, 2005 by Adam

What began as anecdotes by Plymouth State University Professor Bob Swift, department of music, theater and dance, at a recognition ceremony for employees being honored for landmark years of service, has burgeoned into a book, Teaching Moments: Selected Memories of PSU Faculty. Compiled and edited by Swift, with photos from the Plymouth State archives, the book includes recollections of stories from their University career from 26 faculty members and two principal administrators.

In the book’s introduction Swift says, “For all of us involved in the teaching/learning process, education is what goes on in the classroom, studio, rehearsal hall, laboratory, library, or on the athletic field. Memories of such incidents remain for years, as every reader can verify from personal experience.”

An invitation was mailed to all full- and part-time faculty and athletic coaches to share a memory from their years of teaching or coaching at PSC or PSU. Each recollection was limited to 500 words. Swift says, “The 28 ‘moments’ in the book are whimsical, thought-provoking, humorous and inspiring submissions. Taken together they provide a delightful cross-section of teaching-learning exchanges and experiences that, to a large degree, define us [PSU].”

Teaching Moments is available for purchase at the University bookstore or by contacting Barbara Gickas in the Development Office at (603) 535-2212 or via e-mail at bjgickas@plymouth.edu. The book costs $14.95.
