PLYMOUTH, N.H. – For the third week in a row, the starting quarterback on the Plymouth State University football team was recognized by the New England Football Conference for his performance in a Panther victory.
Junior John DeMarco (Milford, N.H./Milford) was named to the NEFC Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after guiding the Panthers to a 28-17 Boyd Division victory over Endicott College. He was also on the NEFC Honor Roll two weeks ago after a PSU win over UMass Dartmouth, and was the NEFC Offensive Co-Player of the Week seven days ago after a triumph over Western New England.
A 6’1”, 220-pound quarterback, DeMarco (right) threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in Saturday’s win over Endicott. He connected with senior WR Drew Richardson (Newburgh, Maine) on a pair a scores, a 10-yarder in the second quarter that gave PSU the lead back, 14-10, and a 65-yard bomb at the end of the third quarter to make it a 28-10 PSU lead. DeMarco completed 8-of-11 passes for 124 yards on the afternoon, and also rushed 11 times for 54 yards and a touchdown.
DeMarco leads the 16-team NEFC in passing efficiency (190.5), with season totals of 33-for-58 (56.9 percent), 695 yards, seven TDs and two INTs. He has also rushed for 253 yards (4.0 avg.) and seven touchdowns, which is tied with PSU senior RB Jeff Mack (Milford, N.H.) for fifth-best in the NEFC in scoring.
The Panthers, ranked third again this week in the New England Division III poll, have won their first five games for the seventh time in school history and the first time since back-to-back 9-0 seasons in 1994 and 1995. PSU continues NEFC Boyd Division play this Saturday with a key home game against Nichols College (1:00 p.m. at Currier Field). PSU and Nichols are tied with Curry for first place in the Boyd Division, all three schools at 3-0 in divisional play.
