LACONIA, N.H. – Junior Matt Ruberto (Stoney Creek, Ont.) recorded a hat trick and junior Jason Murfitt (Ottawa, Ont.) and freshman Dillon Henningson (Edmonton, Alb.) added two goals apiece Friday evening to lead top-ranked Manhattanville College to a 12-2 victory over Plymouth State University in non-conference men’s ice hockey action at Laconia Ice Arena.
Manhattanville, ranked #1 in the nation in Division III, kept its unbeaten season alive and improved to 10-0-2 overall, while Plymouth State suffered its fifth straight setback and dipped to 3-9-1 overall.
Junior Deni Bojadzic (Gothenburg, Sweden) provided the only highlights for the Panthers, scoring both goals, including one late in second frame and adding a power play marker in the third period.
Sophomore Derek Lynden (Pickering, Ont.) and Henningson scored first period goals to give the visitors a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. The Valiants put the game away with seven unanswered goals in the middle frame, including two each by Murfitt and Ruberto. Bojadzic put the Panthers on the board in the final minute of the second period to break the shutout.
Manhattanville finished with a 45-11 advantage in shots on goal. Senior goalie Andrew Gallant (Summerside, PEI) earned the victory in goal for the Valiants before giving way to junior Paul Reimer (Boissevain, Mani.) midway through the contest.
Plymouth State is right back in action Saturday with an ECAC Northeast Conference game at Framingham State (7:20 p.m.) Manhattanville returns to the ice Saturday night for an exhibition against the U.S. Under-18 National Team at the Terry Conners Rink in Stamford, Conn.
