PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two members of the Plymouth State University basketball teams were named to the Little East Conference Weekly Honor Roll Monday for their performances in several Panther games last week.
Junior forward Mike Walcek (Dover, N.H.) and junior guard Colleen Mahoney (North Attleboro, Mass.) were selected to the LEC Honor Roll. Both individuals received LEC weekly recognition for the first time in their careers.
A 6’4” forward, Walcek (left) averaged 16.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals, as PSU went 2-2 for the week. He made 11 three-pointers in the four games, shooting 45.8 percent from beyond the arc. Walcek led the team in scoring in three of the four games, including both wins. He has scored in double figures in five straight games and 10 out of 12 this season.
A 5’7” guard, Mahoney (right) averaged 15.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.7 steals in PSU’s 0-3 week. She made seven three-pointers in the three games, shooting 41.2 percent from beyond the arc. Mahoney has scored in double figures in four straight games and seven out of 11 this season.
The PSU men, 9-3 overall, are locked in a four-way tie for second place in the LEC with 2-1 conference records; Keene State (3-0) is the only unbeaten team in the league. The Panther women, 4-7 overall, are in a four-way tie for fourth place in the conference, all with 1-2 LEC marks; Southern Maine and Keene State share the top spot in the LEC with 3-0 records.
The Panther squads return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 10, with a home LEC twinbill at Foley Gymnasium against UMass Boston (women at 5:30 p.m., men at 7:30 p.m.)
