PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two members of the Plymouth State University field hockey team were selected to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III All-Region Team on Monday, one on the First Team and one on the Second Team.
Senior back Annie Metz (North Chelmsford, Mass.) was named a New England West Region First Team All-Star, and junior forward Lilly Silva (Lowell, Mass.) was selected a Second Team All-Star. Metz and Silva are two of only four players on the 32-member All-New England West Region team that are not from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).
A four-year starter on defense, Metz earned her third straight All-Little East Conference selection this season and was also named LEC Defensive Player of the Year. She anchored a Panther defense that allowed only 27 goals in 19 games. Metz also contributed to the PSU offense with six goals and three assists after registering only one assist in her first three seasons.
Silva enjoyed an outstanding offensive season for PSU, leading the Little East in scoring with 27 goals and 59 points. She finished one goal shy of the PSU single-season goal-scoring record, and is also one goal short of the career goal-scoring mark (48). Silva has tied the Plymouth State career points mark with 110, matching the mark set by Terry Galley from 1981-84.
Metz and Silva were two of the leaders of a Panther team that made its fifth straight post-season appearance in 2004. PSU went on to capture the ECAC New England Championship and finished with an 18-4 overall record, setting the program record for wins in a season.
The New England West Region includes teams from the NESCAC and the Little East. Teams from the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) are recognized on the New England East Region All-Star Team.
