PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth took four of the six singles matches and came from behind to defeat Plymouth State University, 5-4, in the Little East Conference women’s tennis opener for both schools.
The Panthers opened the match by winning two of the three doubles matches, but the Corsairs pulled out the team win with strong singles play. UMD improves to 2-1 overall, while PSU remains winless in four tries.
Freshman Blair Dalrymple (North Attleboro, Mass.) was the only double winner for UMD, capturing wins at No. 5 singles and with classmate Amber Ubertini (Dalton, Mass.) at No. 3 doubles. The other Corsair winners for all in singles – freshman Amy Lopes (Dartmouth, Mass.) at No. 1, junior Becky Bullock (Wrentham, Mass.) at No. 3, and senior Nicole Cross (Dunstable, Mass.) at No. 6.
Junior Meghan Rodier (Francestown, N.H.) and senior Briley Boisvert (Goffstown, N.H.) were double winners for PSU, teaming up for a victory at No. 2 doubles and capturing singles wins at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively. Seniors Jill Deyermond (Atkinson, N.H.) and Joan Kietzman (Plymouth, N.H.) won the No. 1 doubles match for PSU in a tiebreaker.
PSU is home again Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. match against Bridgewater State. UMD returns home to host UMass Boston on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.)
