Veritas Quintet presents Musical Valentine February 13 at PSU

February 9th, 2011 by Adam

Plymouth, N.H. –PSU Professor of Music Dan Perkins has invited four friends to join him February 13 in performances of two masterpieces of the piano quintet repertoire: Johannes Brahms, Piano Quintet in F minor and Amy Beach, Piano Quintet in F# minor.

The performance will be held at 1 p.m. in the Smith Recital Hall at the Silver Center.

Perkins says, “The soaring, passionate melodies of Brahms are answered by Amy Beach, who modeled her quintet on Brahms’. Beach, who lived and worked in Portsmouth, is one of the most prolific and influential women composers of the early 20th century.

Perkins, the quintet pianist, will be joined by violinist Ella Gray, a longtime member of the New Hampshire Music Festival. Violinist Sasha Callahan and her husband, cellist Leo Eguchi, are Boston-area musicians who also play with the NHMF. Violist Daniel Dona, also from Boston, is an active artists and teacher.

Tickets for the concert are $14 for adults, $13 for seniors, $11 for youth at the Silver Center Box Office, (603) 535-ARTS or (800) 779-3869 or online at silver.plymouth.edu. 603) 535-2367.
