Virtual Job Fair is PSC Reality
PSC’s second “Virtual Job Fair” which connects students and alumni with regional, national and global employers is March 5-9. Currently, 154 employers are registered.
The concept, which originated in the Chicago area, was tested successfully at PSC last spring. Ruth DeCotis, manager of the event reports making job connections on-line was convenient and efficient, and eliminated travel for both the employer and the applicant, and allowed 24-hour participation.
With the help of Roderick Carder-Russell in ITS, and Career Services undergraduate fellow, Jennifer Hess, prospective employers have created virtual booths with information about their company, the type of job opening they seek to fill, and the requisite qualifications. They also provide an e-mail contact for the “live” days of the fair. Participating organizations are expected to comply with state and federal EEO/AA policies.
PSC’s graduating seniors and alumni (and those from the other 12 NHCUC schools) were able to preview information supplied by prospective employers prior to the active dates of the on-line fair. From March 5-9, students can communicate with employer representatives, ask questions, and send information about themselves from any convenient location. Students don’t have to miss classes or leave their jobs to participate.
