WESTFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Megan Wolski (Plymouth, Mass.) scored three goals and added an assist – all in the first half – Saturday afternoon to lead Westfield State College to a 5-1 victory over Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference field hockey game.
It was the first win of the season for the Owls, who are 1-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Plymouth State is now 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
The Owls stunned the Panthers with four first-half goals. Wolski scored four minutes into the game on a penalty stroke, then assisted on a goal by junior Shanna Litterst with 27:29 left in the first half. Wolski then scored at the 15-minute mark and with 1:53 left in the half off a penalty corner.
Plymouth State scored its only goal with 14 minutes remaining in the contest when sophomore Jenna Lace (Pascoag, R.I.) tallied her team-leading fifth goal of the season, with junior Christina Farias (East Dennis, Mass.) assisting. Westfield State’s Kara Guittarr rounded out the scoring with six minutes to play.
PSU gets right back into action Sunday with a 12 noon contest at Springfield College. The Pride are ranked ninth in the latest nation Division III poll. Westfield State is home again Tuesday vs. Trinity (7:00 p.m.)
