Winter Fantasia at Plymouth State

November 21st, 2001 by Adam

Winter Fantasia, a celebration of the Winter solstice captured in the dynamic beauty of dance, will be presented at 8 p.m. Friday, December 7, at Plymouth State College’s Silver Cultural Arts Center.

The holiday program will feature performances in modern dance, ballet, pointe and theatre dance, inspired by themes characterized by New Hampshire’s distinctive winter season.

Under the direction of Joan Wiegers, associate professor of dance and director of the Contemporary Dance Ensemble, the concert will feature original pieces created and danced by the 50-member company. The show will also feature a special guest performance by the young students of BP Studios, a community dance program under the direction of Carole Ann Morrison, studio director and a lecturer at Plymouth State. Gary Flannery, a former Broadway dancer with Gary Fosse who is now a lecturer at PSC, will choreograph theatre dance style works.

Wiegers says, “We hope Winter Fantasia will soon become Plymouth’s Nutcracker – the program area families will look forward to as part of their holiday season celebration. People of all ages are invited to delight in this evening of artistic merriment welcoming the winter season.”
Tickets for Winter Fantasia are $8 at the Silver Cultural Arts Center box office, 603-535-ARTS. If special arrangements are needed, please call in advance.
