WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Dave McKenna scored three goals Tuesday night to lead Western New England College past Plymouth State College in
ECAC Northeast Division college hockey action at Olympia Ice Center.
It was the season finale for Plymouth State, which completes the campaign with a 4-20-1 overall record and tied for 10th in the ECAC Northeast at 4-13-0. WNEC,
6-14-2 and 3-12-1, wraps up its season Thursday night at home against Curry.
Junior Chris Tortorella (Larchmont, N.Y.) scored twice for the Panthers, and senior captain Erik Nadeau (Waterville, Maine) tallied once in his final career game, but
it wasn’t enough to get past the Bears.
After a scoreless first period, Tortorella gave PSC a 1-0 lead 2:05 into the second. Kyle Weise and Ryan Haubner connected for WNEC less than a minute apart
six minutes later to give the Bears the lead, but Nadeau tied it up for the Panthers with his fourth of the season at the 12-minute mark. Nadeau finishes his career with 28
goals and 47 assists in 93 games.
With the score tied at 2-2, WNEC notched the next four goals to put the game away. Joseph Keefe and McKenna found the net with late second period goals, and
McKenna finished off the hat trick with a pair in the first two minutes of the third. Tortorella got his second of the game at the 13:27 mark, and Scott Rundlett rounded out
the scoring for WNEC at 19:10.
WNEC finished with a 42-30 advantage in shots on goal. PSC junior goalie Larry Forgue (Nashua, N.H.) made 35 saves, and WNEC goaltender Nate Stockton
made 27 stops.
Panther freshman Garrett Dionne (Clarence Center, N.Y.) picked up one assist on the night and finished as the team scoring leader with 11 goals, 12 assists and
23 points in 25 games.
