Panthers capture regular season title and earn top seed in LEC Tourney

Plymouth State College will host the first annual Little East Conference women’s lacrosse championship tournament Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4, at Arold Field.

The Panthers earned the right to host the semifinals and championship game this weekend by capturing the LEC regular season title. PSC won all six LEC games
this spring, earning the top seed in the tournament and a first-round bye.

The first game of the tournament is at noon on Friday, featuring No. 2 seed Eastern Connecticut against the winner of Tuesday’s Keene State-Rhode Island College first-round game. PSC will then take the field at 3 p.m. against the survivor of Tuesday’s Western Connecticut-UMass Dartmouth contest. The two Friday winners meet for the LEC Championship at Arold Field Saturday at 1 p.m.

As a first-year conference, the LEC champion will not be eligible for an automatic berth in the NCAA Championship Tournament, but could receive an at-large berth or an invitation to the ECAC New England Tournament.

The Panthers, led by second-year head coach Wynne Lobel, won 10 in a row in April and take an 11-2 overall record into the weekend. PSC captured New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance championships and earned NCAA bids the last
two years, before moving into the Little East Conference this season.
