Workshops and Drop-in Sessions

We at Information Technology Services (ITS), are here to support you through this time of transformation. If you have any questions on Moodle, Mahara, Office 365, Lynda, Zoom, 3D Printing or other technologies, please stop by during our drop-in sessions; send an email to helpdesk@plymouth.edu to schedule an appointment with one of our specialists; or sign up for one of our workshops.

Seats are limited for workshops to 12 participants – so that all can get their questions answered. You must EMAIL user-workshops@plymouth.edu  to reserve your seat. In addition, please bring your laptop or let us know if you need to borrow one.

Moodle

Moodle Drop-In Session in Lamson 112

Every Tuesday (10:00 am – 12:00 pm) and Thursday (2:00 – 4:00 pm)

Katie will be available during this time to answer your Moodle questions and to troubleshoot common issues.

Moodle Gradebook in Lamson 117 

Wednesday, February 8th (4:00 – 5:00 pm) OR February 22nd (10:30 – 11:30 am)

Katie will offer a hands-on session for navigating and configuring your Moodle Gradebook. Topics covered will include initial setup, creating categories and assignments, and grading student work. We recommend this session for beginners and those who need to overhaul their current gradebook setup.

Integrate Lynda and Zoom Video with Moodle in Lamson 117

Tuesday, February 14th (3:00 – 4:00 pm) OR Monday, February 27th (10:00 – 11:00 am)

Katie will offer a hands-on session for adding a Lynda.com course or playlist into Moodle. She will also cover how to integrate Zoom, which is a web and app based video conferencing service. The Zoom plugin offers tight integration with Moodle, supporting meeting creation and account synchronization.

Creating a Personal Learning Plan with Lynda.com in Lamson 117

Tuesdays, February 14th (11:30 am – 12:30 pm) OR February 28th (11:30 am – 12:30 pm)

Plymouth State is proud to be offering Lynda.com for all employees.  Lynda.com is an online library of courses on software tools and skills.  Melinda and Jo-Ann will provide you with an introduction to Lynda.com and show you how you can create your own Personal Learning Plan!

Office 365 Basic in Lamson 117

Monday, February 13th  (2:00 – 3:00 pm) or Monday, February 27th  (2:00 – 3:00 pm)

Steven will provide a hands-on session that will provide you an opportunity to learn about and explore the features and functionality of the MS Office 365 Suite of online services; including email and calendar. We recommend this workshop for beginners.

 

Stay and Play Friday in the Lamson Open Labs

Friday, February 17th 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. 

In Lamson OL 031 Erika will hold an Introduction to Tinkercad  – Come to our workshop this month to learn basic CAD (Computer Aided Design) using Tinkercad – a simple web based CAD program. We’ll go over all of the basic functions in Tinkercad so you can walk away and design or alter your own CAD projects, that then can be 3D Printed in our Print Depot. We’ll be able to answer other questions about options for design for 3D printing available in the Open Labs.

Also in Lamson OL 114 (main level) and Ol 031(lower level) – We will hold an Informal opportunity for Faculty and Teaching Lecturers to explore the many ways the technologies in the Lamson Open Labs can enhance teaching and learning.  Bring your questions, even a project to work on, or just come and explore! Katie, our Instructional Technologist, and Josh, our Instructional Designer will be on hand to assist you.

 

Zoom Web-Conferencing in Lamson 117

Wednesday, February 15th (1:00 – 2:00 pm) OR Wednesday, March 1st (1:00 – 2:00 pm)

Have you ever wanted to bring guest lecturers into your classroom but having them on campus is too difficult or costly? Todd will offer insight into web conferencing using PSU’s new Zoom Video tool.

SMART Boards using SMART Notebook in Lamson 117

Wednesday, February 8th (1:00 – 2:00 p.m) OR Wednesday, February, 22nd (1:00 – 2:00 p.m)

SMART Notebook version 16.2 is now deployed in all classroom teaching cart computers with SMART Boards. Todd will provide a 1 hour training session to see how this tool can enhance your student’s experience in the classroom. This class is designed for those new to SMART Boards or in need of a refresher on the use of this amazing technology.

3D Printing and Scanning

Every Wednesday (1:00 – 2:00 pm)

Erika will be available during this time to answer your 3D printing and scanning questions.

3D Printing an Introduction in Lamson 117

Wednesday, February 8th (2:00 – 3:00 pm)

Erika will provide an introductory session into the world of 3D printing. Topics covered will be different printing methodologies, as well as their benefits, limitations, materials, and applications.

In addition, you will have an opportunity to see the 3 models of 3D printers we currently own in action.

3D Scanning in Lamson 031

Wednesday, February, 22nd (2:00 – 3:00 pm)

Curious about the resources and technology available for photogrammetry and 3D scanning on campus? Erika will teach you about our Fuel 3D scanner, 123D Catch, Lynda resources and the basic processes for 3D scanning using a digital camera.
