A longtime Plymouth real estate and property management professional has been honored by his alma mater for his business achievements. Don Stoppe was added to the Alumni Hall of Fame by Plymouth State University’s chapter of the Collegiate American Marketing Association (MAPS) at a Nov. 6 ceremony.
Stoppe graduated from Plymouth State College in 1984 earning a bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies and an MBA in 1998. While taking a real estate investment course at Plymouth he bought the apartment building he was living in, opening the door to his flourishing local business Stoppe Property Management.
“I looked up to many of my great teachers and soaked in everything they said,” Stoppe said. “Several of my professors were my mentors. We would talk after class and discuss various thoughts and I felt a genuine sense of caring from my professors.”
Stoppe and his wife Arlene rent to more than 400 students at their properties in Plymouth and Ashland. The Stoppes have hired many Plymouth State students and graduates over the years and continue to engage students. In 2010, Don and Arlene received the Citizens of the Year award from the Plymouth Rotary. In 2011, Plymouth State University recognized them with the Ut Prosim award for outstanding contributions as alumni to the university and the community.
