The 411 on LGBTQ+ Panels
Who We Are and Why We Speak
We are Plymouth State University students who identify as lesbian women, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people, queer identified individuals and LGBTQ+ allies who seek to educate others about the LGBTQ+ community by sharing our personal experiences. Although we do not claim to speak for the entire LGBTQ+ population, we work very hard to dismantel existing stereotypes, create an awareness of issues LGBTQ+ students face, educate against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia and enahnce visibility both on our campus and off. Our panels are free and available to all who are interested.
Where we speak
We speak to classes, residence halls, athletic teams, student organizations and student staff at Plymouth State University. We also speak to social service agencies, local high schools, religious organizations and other community based centers within our area.
What to expect from us
We begin each panel with an introduction to terminology used to describe many of us; we then briefly tell our “story”. This story may consist of how and when we realized that we were Lesbain, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and/or Queer identified, how our sexual orientation or gender identity has affected our lives, the impact family and friends have had and what others can do to help create a more inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ students. The floor is then opened up for questions that you may have of the us or questions that may arise about broader LGBTQ+ issues.
How do I schedule a panel?
In order to schedule a panel please fill out the request form at least two weeks in advance (we are students and our schedules are busy). Whether you are a student, faculty, staff or community member, all are welcome!
