Maximum Committed Effort – Restrictions

Individuals with planned or applied effort that is not directly allocable to a sponsored agreement such as administration shall commit less than 100% effort to sponsored agreements. Individuals must consider all of their University compensated activities when estimating and apportioning effort.

A common example of restrictions on committing effort is when a PI plans on writing grant proposals during an upcoming fiscal year. Since grant proposal writing is a department administration activity, the PI is restricted from committing or
charging 100% effort on sponsored agreements during the fiscal year.
