Gadan- Storming New Trad Quartet

October 20, 2022 @ 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

LET CHAIRS SAIL THROUGH THE AIR WITH THIS STORMING NEW TRAD QUARTET
Gadan is the new project created by four experienced and well-known musicians in Irish trad and European folk/rock scene, with years of touring in the major European and US festivals of traditional and contaminated folk music.

An impactful repertoire with a powerful live appeal and a sound comparable to new-trad acts such as Talisk, WeBanjo3, The East Pointers or Rura, but with a unique identity thanks to years of experience in folk music, from Traditional Irish & Scottish music to Appalachian & Old Time music, not to mention the deep connection with regional folk ballads of Northern Italy.

Gadan musically and lyrically explores the deep connection between emigrating people from different part of Europe, such as Ireland and Italy, to the United States, through a reinvigorating and modern musical approach.
Two banjos – tenor & clawhammer – fiddle, mandolin, bouzouki and guitar for a “strings-only” sound with a hint of electronics and driven by a powerful rhythmic pulse. Who said you need drums to groove?

More information on the band can be found here

Joan Gatti: Fiddle
Lorenzo Testa: Tenor Banjo, Mandolin, Kick, Voice
Jacopo Ventura: Guitar, Bouzouki,Voice
Andrea Verga: 5-strings Banjo, Mandolin, Kick, Voice

Joan Gatti started when he was just 6 years old studying classical violin, and obtained a degree
in classical music.
Lately he has expanded his view of his instruments and started specializing in folk repertoires,
mainly from Ireland, Scotland and England, but also taking an interest in French Neo-Trad and
Scandinavian music. He was in the line-up for the Irish band, “Mac Antock”, and is currently part
of the trio “Duilleoga”. He is quickly becoming one of the finest performers of the Scottish/ Irish
repertoire in Italy.

Lorenzo Testa is the founder of the most well-known Irish-rock band from Italy, the “Uncle Bard
and the Dirty Bastards”, and has spent the last 20 years travelling throughout Ireland, and falling
in love with its music and culture.
Lorenzo is an eclectic and versatile folk musician, easily being able to switch from a hard rock
sound with the Dirty Bastards, to a soft and precise Irish feel on Tenor Banjo and Mandolin, the
instruments that he is best known for in the Italian Irish scene. He’s also an accomplished
songwriter and guitar player.

Jacopo Ventura started with a degree in classical guitar and has spent the last 20 years living
and working as a multi-instrumental player in the World and Folk music scenes.
He founded or joined several prolific World music bands from Italy, both in the folk-rock scene
(Folkamiseria) and in the trad-folk scene (Andrea Capezzuoli e Compagnia, Lyradanz), where he
performed in most of the biggest Trad-folk and World music festivals in Europe. He has
collaborated with many prominent musicians of the modern folk scene, and he spends most of his
time on tour, mainly in Europe and occasionally in North and South America.
For the last 10 years he has created his own unique style on guitar — mixing all the different
influences he has experienced through his artistic path.

Andrea Verga is considered one the most talented young clawhammer banjoist in the world. He
is appreciated as an innovator in both the European and American banjo scenes. (Banjo
Newsletter June 2020 by Ken Perlman).
Starting with jazz guitar, he has lately specialized in American repertoires with a 5-string banjo
and mandolin. He founded or joined some of the most well-known Italian folk bands (Folkamiseria
and Shiver, where he was backing Davide VanDeSfroos in his 2017 tour, which concluded in San
Siro Stadium).
Thanks to his continuous musical activity as a session musician, producer, teacher and innovator
he has passed through the boundary between folk and pop music, and he is in demand in Italy
for Mainstream rock productions.
