President Sara Jayne Steen with support from across the campus signed the President’s Commitment in late spring 2007. A presidential Commission for Environmental Sustainability was formed over the summer of 2007 and we began work to develop the Climate Action plan (CAP). As an early adopter of this effort we began to measure our Green House Gas (GHG) emissions and to develop a Climate Action Plan that will provide the campus with a road map for achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and also provides a plan for increasing the focus of sustainability across the curriculum and enhance research and community interaction.
The Presidents Commission’s final draft of the CAP report is posted to this web site. We encourage readers to review these materials and provide feedback through the blog capabilities that part of this site. There will be an open campus wide meeting later in March when members of the Commission will explain elements of the plan and answer questions. A final report will be issued in early April.
