Quarantine Boredom Breaker

Quarantine can be boring, and with the deluge of entertainment and the ‘Golden Age of Television’ it would be a shame to mindlessly scroll through tic Tok while youcould be immersing yourself in a movie/show/video game that will genuinely make you feel something and have it stick with you for months. Hopefully this list can helpyou while away the 14 days or 336 hours or 20,160 minutes of self isolation. Re-member, that this is no substitute to calling somebody you love and trying to play cribbage over a FaceTime call. Stay safe, and stay connected. Have a great break.

Movies:

‘Parasite’ Directed by Bong Joon Ho. Watch this Movie. It will blow your mind. Alfred Hitchcock would be proud of this movie. It left me thinking about it 6 months after credits rolled. It won Motion Picture of the Year, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Achievement in Directing. It is streaming currently on Hulu.

‘John Wick Trilogy’ Is a good action movie series to watch. The first one being the best, having a great revenge story plot. Sort of a cousin to ‘Kill Bill’ The other two dive into the universe of John Wick a little more, exploring the hierarchy of assas-sins. The most recent title, ‘Parabelum’ came out May of last year.

‘Ladybird’ a heartfelt coming of age story that upon release resonated very stronglywith me since I was just about to go to college, and I still think about Christine’s re-lationship with her mom and what her first steps toward college looked like against mine. It is a great movie.

‘Hamilton’ This seems mute to recommend this since anybody who does want to watch it, will and has watched it when it took over the internet for a few weeks over the summer. But still. You’ll get to see what all the hubbub is about while you wait for the 14 days to elapse. I definitely fall into the loved it category, and have been guilty of belting out various lines in public.

Shows:

‘What we do in the Shadows’ A mock-umentary that explores the misadventures of vampires navigating the modern world in spite of understanding nothing about modern society. It’s raunchy and gross, and horrifyingly hilarious. Both seasons 1 and 2 are available to watch on Hulu.

‘The Mandalorian’ Star Wars’ most recent addition is really awesome. It follows a dangerous bounty hunter across planets as he tries to protect a mysterious bounty target. Lovers of sci-fi, space cowboys, ‘Firefly’ and gorgeous fiction terrain all have something to enjoy here. It is directed and written so well. The second season is coming out each week, so you’ll have something to watch over the whole of quaran-tine. Both seasons 1 and 2 are streaming only on Disney Plus.

‘The IT Crowd’ a short sit com follows lovable dorks operating an IT department for Reynholm Industries, it is strangely random and awkward. It is an easy watch that takes very effort to watch. Fantastic to take your mind off of quarantine.

Video Games:

‘Hades’ A game where you have to stage an escape from hell already sounds great, but once you see the gorgeous and colorful hand-drawn environments and master-ful voice acting and humor, you’ve got to be sold on this action rogue-lite where youmust hack and slash out of hades with the aid of the other gods to see the surface for the first time. It’s a great time. It is available on Switch, PC, and MacOS.

‘Spelunky 2’ Difficult and infuriating, but cute and cartoonish. Fast retries and you can play couch and online multiplayer. It demands that you become better at the game and rewards you with more zones and faster runtimes. You will die. A lot. Available on Playstation 4 and PC.

‘Stardew Valley’ A farming simulator that becomes so much more once you begin toexplore the lives of the inhabitants of Pelican Town and the action of the mines. Youget to control how to play, whether it is making the most efficient farm possible, grind for the Galaxy Sword in the dungeon, and attend the various events that occurthroughout the fictional year. Stardew valley is a well thought out and polished game that will eat your time. Even better, it’s available on everything and has multi-player. Switch, Playstation 4, Xbox One, iOS and Android.
