In 2020, global pop star Taylor Swift was known as something of a political activist. Through the first Trump administration and the election of 2020, Swift had come out against Trump and endorsed Joe Biden. In her documentary, “Miss Americana,” she openly denounced President Donald Trump and his policies. Now, in 2025, that doesn’t seem to be entirely the case.

Though I doubt she is suddenly MAGA, after what Trump has put Swift through, she certainly has been rather quiet amid recent political turmoil. She also has been spotted out and about with Brittany Mahomes, proud MAGA supporter and wife of Patrick Mahomes, Quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. Though Mahomes could simply be an acquaintance of Swift given both their partners are work associates, it seems that a genuine friendship has developed. This speaks rather poorly on Swift’s personal beliefs due to Mahomes being so openly pro-Trump.

Swift has also come under fire for her recent album, one of the controversies being that she seems to be promoting tradwife (traditional wife) values. This in particular pertains to a line from her song “Wi$h Li$t” regarding her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce. “I just want you, huh/Have a couple kids, got the whole block looking like you.” The tradwife claims, however, are entirely baseless. A woman wanting to settle down and have children after working for nearly two decades in no way represents tradwife values. She could easily retire now and still be the breadwinner for her family, making her objectively not a tradwife. This, however, brings me to my next point: her billionaire status.

Swift is certainly not the worst of the billionaires in the world, as she is known to donate large amounts of money to several different causes. But alas, there is no such thing as an ethical billionaire. While I do believe she shouldn’t be placed in the same category as Elon Musk, there is certainly no way to amass that amount of money without exploiting labor and natural resources. Swift’s mass production of merch, vinyl, and CDs certainly prioritizes profit over workers, the same way other multi-billion corporations do. Her charitable acts, while helpful, could also be seen as a bandaid over the economic impact Swift has had.

The final damning action marking the end of Swift’s ‘wokeness’ was the use of her song “The Fate of Ophelia” in a White House TikTok, and Swift’s following silence. Other artists, whose songs have been by President Trump, have actively come out against the use of their music to promote Trump’s disgusting policies. Pop star Olivia Rodrigo recently took her song “All-American Bitch” off TikTok after it was used by ICE. “Don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist hateful propaganda,” Rodrigo said. Swift, however, has remained silent in the wake of her music being used by the White House, even though she used to speak out proudly against their policies.

As the former resident Swiftie writer for The Clock, and a previously proud supporter of hers, I have to say, I miss woke Taylor Swift. This article is not to say that I believe she is MAGA now, but that I am disappointed in her silence when she used to be a vocal activist. It seems to me that the money has gone to her head, and that she simply does not hold the same values she used to.
