It was a brisk Oct. morning for the Plymouth State women’s field hockey team as they welcomed powerhouse Roger Williams University’s Hawks. Plymouth State entered the contest with a 6-1 overall record and 1-0 record in the Little Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, Roger Williams came into the contest with an overall record of 8-2 and a 2-0 record in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.

The first period started with Roger Williams quickly threatening on offense. Throughout the period, Antonucci was making some incredible saves. Plymouth had a fantastic three players on defense of Freni, Couture, and Salzillo making it hard for RWU to score, but that changed at the last second. With one second left in the period, the Hawks were able to tie the game on a penalty shot.

Beginning the second period, Roger Williams came out blazing in the offensive zone which led to a quick goal for the Hawks. Freni continued to show flashes on defense once again. The Hawks were able to get 2 goals while the Panthers couldn’t seem to find the back of the net.

Coming out of halftime, Roger Williams was very quick and efficient in getting into the offensive zone. This time, the Plymouth defense prevailed with Freni once again leading with her incredible defense. The Hawks’ Rocheleau was an offensive general with her quick speed as she was always involved in the Hawks’ rush into the zone. This was a heavily defensive period, as both teams flashed into each offensive zone but no goals were scored.

In the fourth period, Roger Williams was able to tally two goals in credit to their offense once again who were stellar since the opening period. Plymouth tried to come back, but RWU shut down any opportunity. They fought hard until the end of the game against a tough non-conference powerhouse. After this game, Plymouth State falls to a record of 6-2 and Roger Williams shines to a record of 9-2 overall.
