Allied Health Sciences

The Bachelor of Science degree in Allied Health Sciences is designed to provide students with the requisite background and pre-requisites for study in a career in the medical/allied health fields.

The Allied Health Sciences degree program is designed to provide students with the background and pre-requisites for a career in the medical/allied health fields. The program is designed to meet the needs of students interested in pursuing graduate study in various fields of allied health such as Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Chiropractic medicine, Physician’s Assistant or wish to work on the business end of healthcare. Pre Athletic Training & 3+2 to MS in Athletic Training

Students who wish to become an Athletic Trainer may choose the Pre-Athletic Training option. The Pre-AT option will lead to a 3+2 (three years of undergraduate classes and two years of graduate classes) and will earn a BS in Allied Health Sciences and an MS in Athletic Training.

3+2 BS/MS degree option for Athletic Training.

Students interested in athletic training at PSU who have completed all pre-requisite courses and have a minimum 3.2 GPA at the end of the 3rd year of study will be given special consideration for early entry into the Master of Science degree program in Athletic Training for their 4th year of study.  The MS degree program in Athletic Training is a two-year program constituting years four and five for a student who entered the 3+2 program.  Students who complete all requirements will earn the Bachelor of Science in Allied Health Sciences at the completion of year four and the Master of Science in Athletic Training at the completion of year five. Pre Professional

Those students who plan to apply to graduate school in one of the many other Allied Health fields may choose the Pre Professional option. This option prepares students for entry into Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physician’s Assistant or Chiropractic graduate programs

Healthcare Administration

The third option is for students who wish to work in the healthcare industry but want to focus on the business side rather than direct patient care. These students may choose the Healthcare Administration option. Students in this option may complete a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in four years or those with a 3.0 GPA or higher may enter the 4+1 and earn a BS and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in five years.
