Research Integrity & Human Subjects Training

We have partnered with CITI who provides the most up to date learning modules that are compliant with federal guidelines.

To begin the training, register on the CITI site & affiliate yourself with Plymouth State University. At the end of registration CITI will prompt the user to answer five questions pertaining to which courses the they would like to take. The courses are outlined below as well as who needs to take each one. Training certifications are valid for a period of three to four years, after which time it is the individual’s responsibility to complete a “refresher” CITI module.

Human Subjects Research

This is CITI Question 1 and it is required for ALL individuals conducting research with human subjects, whether funded or non-funded. Students conducting research on human subjects are only required to take the course labeled: Students conducting no more than minimal risk research.

Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)

This is CITI Question 3 and it is required for those supported under externally and/or internally funded research projects, including those classified as participants.

Financial Conflict of Interest (COI)

This is CITI Question 4 and it is required for those supported under externally and/or internally funded research projects, including those classified as participants.

Animal Care and Use

Export Control Regulations (ECR)

Individuals conducting research projects that include the transfer/exchange of data, technology, or equipment- to foreign countries or persons- within and outside the U.S. may be subject to export control regulations. Please contact OSP to determine whether your project may be subject to export control regulations. Export Controls training is provided through UNH and can be found at: Export Controls at UNH

Effort Reporting and Certification

University policies and federal regulations require PSU to maintain systems and procedures documenting the distribution of activity, and associated payroll charges, to each sponsored award. All personnel supported with salary funding from a sponsored project are required to review the Effort Reporting and Certification online Module. The Internal Review Approval Form used for pre-award proposal approvals will require you to certify that you have reviewed and understand your effort reporting and certification requirements for sponsored programs.

The full policy can be read here: Plymouth State University Research Integrity Policy

There are other training modules available that may be required based on what type of research you are doing. Please contact OSP with questions on whether you need to take any additional training.
