Rooted: A Story of Trees is born from the powerful connection between individuals and the trees that shape Plymouth State University’s campus. Inspired by PSU’s Adopt-a-Tree Program, this exhibition invites visitors to step into the heart of PSU’s natural environment and explore the incredible diversity of trees that thrive here. What began as a simple initiative to nurture these trees has evolved into a broader movement that underscores the importance of tree stewardship, education, and sustainability.

The goal of this exhibition is twofold: first, to inspire a deep sense of wonder and respect for the natural world around us, and second, to foster a greater understanding of the importance of long-term tree care and conservation. As we share the stories of these remarkable trees, we hope to encourage others to become stewards of the environment and to support initiatives like the Adopt-a-Tree Program, which ensures that future generations can enjoy the same beauty and benefits that we do today.

Developed through a collaboration between the Museum of the White Mountains, Dr. Eden Bowditch, and PSU students from a wide range of academic disciplines, this exhibition aims to engage visitors on multiple sensory levels. By blending artistic interpretation with ecological education, we invite our audience to immerse themselves in the story of just a few of the many trees that define our campus.

Rooted: A Story of Trees serves as both a celebration and a call to action—a way to highlight the urgency of supporting the trees that enrich our campus and, by extension, our environment.
