Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance. Title IX covers matters of sex discrimination, including sexual harassment. Title IX also prohibits retaliation for filing a complaint or for exercising a right protected by Title IX.
Supportive measures and resolution pathways exist to support your education.
Individuals are encouraged to contact the Title IX Coordinator with questions about Title IX and to learn about resources and options for reporting.
The PSU Policy Prohibiting Sexual Misconduct provides individuals with a number of resolution pathways following an incident of sexual misconduct:
Supportive measures: are individualized measures offered to impacted individuals without fee or charge to restore access to the University’s education program or activity and/or to provide support to individuals when they are participating in a resolution process.
- Supportive measures may include but are not limited to counseling; confidential advocacy; academic course related adjustments; leaves of absence; changes in work, housing, or other activity; administrative no-contact directives.
Supportive measures are available through the Title IX Office regardless of whether an individual proceeds with filing a formal complaint.
Agreement-based resolution: is a voluntary, structured agreement between involved parties that integrates support and accountability. Agreement-based resolution is an alternative to the investigation and decision-making process and offers the parties the opportunity to develop and propose terms for resolving a formal complaint.
This process can be initiated at any time after a formal complaint is filed. If an agreement cannot be reached, the investigation and decision-making process remains available.
Investigation and decision-making resolution: Following a formal complaint being filed, the University will conduct an administrative investigation and facilitate a decision-making process to determine whether a university policy has been violated. Individuals may access supportive measures during an investigation process. The University’s investigation is separate from a law enforcement investigation.
