Research Integrity
Plymouth State University upholds faculty, staff, and students to conduct their work, including sponsored projects and research, with the highest degree of integrity. Research Integrity reflects a shared societal concern for the proper stewardship of public dollars in support of research, the ethical treatment of human subjects, and the humane care and use of animals in research. Plymouth State University shares these commitments and as such, requires Research Integrity Training for all personnel directly involved with research.

Institutional Review Board (IRB) – Human Subjects
PSU’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) is authorized under an Assurance approved by the Department of Health and Human Services to review and to approve research involving human participants. The IRB at PSU is standing committee responsible for protecting the rights and welfare of people who are participants in PSU research activities.

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
PSU’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is responsible for reviewing all animal care applications using vertebrate animals, ensuring compliance with federal animal welfare regulations, inspecting animal facilities and investigator laboratories, investigating animal concerns, and overseeing training and educational programs.

Effort Reporting and Certification
Effort Certification is a means of assuring sponsors that your level of effort, expressed as a percentage of total university effort, corresponds to the amount you were paid from the project. This assurance process is required by PSU policies and federal regulations.
This is accomplished through your effort report and certification. The effort report includes all funds from which you were paid for total university effort. The statement will include cost-shared effort as well. All hourly employees certify via the bi-weekly timesheet and do not receive an annual effort report.
University policies and federal regulations require PSU to maintain systems and procedures documenting the distribution of activity, and associated payroll charges, to each sponsored award. All personnel supported with salary funding from a sponsored project are required to review the Effort Reporting and Certification online Module. The Internal Review Approval Form used for pre-award proposal approvals will require you to certify that you have reviewed and understand your effort reporting and certification requirements for sponsored programs.
Export Control
Overview: Impact of Export Control Regulations on University Activities
Export control regulations apply to the transfer of controlled items to foreign nationals by actual shipment out of the U.S., and also by transfer of controlled technology/technical data and/or encryption software by written, oral or visual release or disclosure to foreign nationals both in- and out- side of U.S. borders. Consequently, export controls can impact University activities on-campus.
Applicability: Individuals conducting research projects where technology, data, or equipment, will be utilized in foreign countries, or where involvement of foreign persons are involved either directly through foreign travel by PSU personnel or where foreign persons are working on PSU projects.
Requirement: Individuals working on applicable projects (see Applicability) are required to complete the UNH Export Controls online training course made available through the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) website. Individuals shall access the Export Controls at UNH training on the UNH website.
