Accounting Society Club students

The mission of the business programs from Plymouth State is to prepare students for professional success in corporate and nonprofit institutions. PSU’s rigorous and multifaceted curriculum focuses on applied, practical business and managerial skills. Graduates are well-prepared to compete for jobs or pursue entrepreneurial ventures, and ultimately succeed in their fields of interest.

Our business programs aim to be nimble in responding to the changing realities of both business and higher education and to be forward looking to recognize and exploit opportunities in order to develop highly qualified graduates ready to face the challenges of the rapidly evolving environment of global business. We aim to leverage technology, faculty expertise and experience to maintain updated curricula that is well-adapted to the changing nature of student learners. In addition, we seeks ways to do so while reducing costs to make the educational opportunity more fiscally sustainable.


The graduate and undergraduate business programs at Plymouth State University are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), a globally recognized process for recognizing teaching excellence, determining student learning outcomes, and a continuous improvement model.

Business program courses address seven learning outcomes, students demonstrate each in the following ways:

  1. Knowledge of the fundamentals of the business functions – This course concentrates on the creation and assessment of business strategy and associated policies. The evaluation of all business functions and their holistic interrelationships will be exercised in developing bold, plausible, and actionable strategic recommendations.
  2. Effective communication skills in writing and presentation – The use of business case analysis requires effective analysis and communications skills. In the on-line version of this course, students are tasked with creating detailed individual and case analysis written documents with supporting exhibits. Effective use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel are required for successful completion of the assignments.
  3. Quantitative analytical ability – All business case assignments require extensive analysis of company financial performance as a critical element in supporting their assessment and strategic recommendations.
  4. Computer and information management literacy and skills – Students must utilize multiple online course resources in the Moodle Learning Management System. Use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) is required in creating their case analysis submittals.
  5. High standards of ethical and professional business conduct – This is demonstrated in the manner students interact with their classmate team members, the instructor and with other student teams during the course and is reflected in the content of their submittals.
  6. Demonstrates leadership – The quality of the recommendations and the initiative demonstrated in creating CEO-level bold strategic initiatives for challenged corporations are indicative of student leadership.
  7. Responsible policy formulation – The content of the assessment, development of strategic alternatives, selection of actionable recommendations and actionable execution of initiatives is core to the course content. The legal, ethical, and financially prudent aspects of student strategic recommendations demonstrate competency and responsibility in the area of policy formulation.
