Emergency Financial Assistance

If you are a student experiencing an unanticipated financial challenge, the Student Support Foundation may be able to provide help.

  • Funding is available for students currently enrolled and taking classes at Plymouth State University.
  • The average granted funds range from $75 to $100, with a maximum grant of $300.
  • Requests are accepted at the start of a semester through the week before finals each semester. A student board reviews and decides on all applications when school is in session.
  • Examples of items that can be funded with a grant:
    • Initial payment toward a future emergency medical expense
    • Travel/gas money- for traveling home, to classes, or to work
    • Textbooks (see below for tips)
    • School supplies
  • Examples of items that cannot be funded with a grant:
    • Tuition
    • Parking tickets
    • PSU fees (for example, course overload fees, sorority/fraternity fees)
    • Non-PSU fees (for example, graduate school applications)
    • Requests made by Student Organizations at PSU

Apply for Emergency Financial Assistance

The program advisor, Diana Daigle, will contact the requestors to clarify the need and determines if there are other needs for support—financial and otherwise—that the requestor has. Once any clarification has been obtained, the requests are given to the student board, which considers the requests and comes to a consensus about funding the request.

Having difficulty finding money for books? The student board of the Student Support Foundation offers these suggestions.

  • Check to see if any of the books you need are in the library. If the book is an older edition, check with the professor to see that it is still acceptable.
  • Borrow books from friends who have taken the courses recently.
  • Share a book with a classmate.
  • Talk to your professors about your dilemma. You might be able to borrow an extra copy or an acceptable, older edition from him/her.

If these are no longer options, consider applying for a Textbook Grant from the Student Support Foundation. Follow these simple steps to apply:

  • Locate used copies of the books. Check with the professor to make sure the edition is acceptable.
  • Research the cost of books from these sources:
  • Complete the Textbook Grant form provided here by the Student Support Foundation.
Notes about online sites:
  • Get your book list from the web site for the PSU bookstore.
  • Include shipping and handling costs when figuring the cost of books.
  • Allow a few weeks to receive the books.
